BUY: Brother PT-2100 PC-Connectable Labeling System with AC adapter

We just got this yesterday so I can’t really give an expert view, I just know I could use it immediately without reading the manual which I hate so much. I hope to spend many useful days with it and finally organize my bills, contracts and receipts with professional looking stickers.
In my opinion the shipping was a little bit late, but when I contacted the seller, he told me that they had problems with his computer and also that he is far away from me, so even though I was eager to receive the Label maker I waited until next week patiently. It was worth to wait.
This is my third Brother P-touch labeler; I also have a QL-500. The particular model in question is a PT-2100. This is the second unit of the PT-2100 I purchased, the first unit was purchased last week and I sent it back.
I returned it because I could not read the screen. I plugged the unit in via AC power; to see the image on the screen it was necessary to pick up the unit and tilt it in such a way to read what it said. Can you imagine the difficulty typing while holding the unit at an angle to view the LCD. To make sure I am not losing my vision I just turned the unit on and asked my spouse to read the screen, the first thing she did was pick the unit up and tilt the screen to see what it said. Her comment was “that’s crazy – how can you type”
The second unit I purchased had exactly the same issues. I am familiar with the setup and have gone in and tried a number of contrast settings to no avail. I also reset the unit to factory settings following the directions in the user manual. This unit is not usable with the lame LCD display.
I give up with this model; it looks like I am out the return shipping for both units. What makes this one so bad? I have excellent readability on my other two models of P-touch.
I have had this unit about 6 months; I have 4 other units in a small office environment. This model has a battery life of about 8-10 labels per 6 AA batteries! Yeah, that’s right–after just a few labels, you have to replace all the batteries, or use it with the AC cord. One of the reasons we bought this model is so that we would have more flexibility in moving around the office and going to other locations. DO NOT buy this unit if you’re planning to operate it on batteries. It works well and gives good results otherwise.
The more advanced features take some work to master, and I probably bought more functionality than I needed, but this is an excellent unit, and the variety of label media it can handle is impressive. The extra adhesive labels are very good for many outdoor applications and seem quite uv resistant. The batteries last a long time and make it easy to move around without having to lug the a/c adapter.
